After being discovered by a talent manager at a children's talent competition, Yee became the youngest member of the Chinese boy band TFBoys in 2013.

Yee is also a solo artist. His single in 2017, ''Li Sao (The Lament)'' was named "Mandarin Song of the Year" by Billboard Radio China. Yee starred in the TV series ''The Longest Day in Chang'an'' (2019) and ''Forward Forever'' (2020). He received critical acclaim for his performances in films ''Better Days'' (2019), ''A Little Red Flower'' (2020) and ''Full River Red'' (2023).
