Honor Mayfield has just stepped out of the frying pan and into the fire. She had almost caught up with a loan shark known as Mr. Granger at the Santa Anita racetrack when Conn Landry pulls her aside. At first it seems as though he's doing Honor a favor by keeping her from walking into the trap the police have set to catch Granger, but actually he has fashioned his own trap for her. By paying off the money her sister Edena owes Granger, Conn has cleverly put Honor in his debt. Conn insists that all he wants is the pleasure of Honor's company at dinner and at the racetrack to watch his Thoroughbred, Legacy, run. However, the more time they spend together, the more Honor realizes that she is falling for a man who is only interested in revenge. The horse-racing world lends an intriguing element to the plot in this hardover edition of Krentz's 1985 Harlequin romance, and Krentz fans will enjoy these early prototypes for her deliciously dark and dangerous heroes and coolly capable heroines.--Charles, John Copyright 2010 Booklist

Conn Landry's vengeful plan turns romantic and dangerous when he and his attractive quarry, Honor Mayfield, are caught in the crosshairs of the true villain in this cleverly plotted, suspenseful romance that was first published in 1985 as an early Harlequin Intrigue. Witty repartee, good sexual tension, some lovely red herrings, and a fair amount of horse-racing detail make this "classic Krentz" a fun, retro read. (c) Copyright 2013.
