Gr. 1-2. The seventh book about Fox, the offbeat character with kidlike qualities, gets off to a good start. Though he wants to practice the guitar, Fox has to babysit for the Ling children. He sends them off to play while he strums, but the next time he sees them, they are floating by the window holding on to a bunch of balloons. Now he has to get them back. There are two other vignettes here, not quite as appealing as the first, but amusing enough to attract brand-new readers. Marshall's color cartoon art works especially well here, where kids having trouble with the words can get hints from the pictures. --Ilene Cooper

K-Gr 2-- Beginning readers are sure to delight in Marshall's sixth and newest book of Fox' ventures. In the first episode, Fox babysits for his rambunctious neighbors and ends up on the TV news. In the second chapter, he makes a big fuss over a small injury, but then learns how to be brave. Finally, Fox finds a place where he can show off all he wants--leading the band in the big parade. Marshall's wit is evidenced through the antics of all his zany characters. Without using difficult words, he extends new readers' understanding of the text through his bright, colorful, and very funny watercolors. As children read of the antics of Fox and his friends, they're sure to chuckle and laugh. Buy multiple copies of this hilarious winner by a master illustrator and author. --April L. Another beginning reading book about Fox: this time he has a disastrous babysitting experience, trips over his roller skate, and is kicked out of band for showing off.
