Review by Choice Review

This excellent modern elementary exposition of special relativity, general relativity, and relativistic cosmology is suitable for intermediate and upper-division undergraduate students in physics and related fields. Minimum prerequisites are a good working knowledge of ordinary algebra, and a basic elementary understanding of the concepts of elementary mechanics and electricity and magnetism. Sartori stresses that it is necessary for the reader to develop an understanding of the concepts, and to develop the ability to reason using the concepts. He provides an excellent description of experimental evidence, an excellent selection of elementary problems, and interesting "thought experiments" and "paradoxes" from the scientific literature to develop and refine the reader's intuition for this purpose. Suitable also for the scientifically inclined general reader. Recommended. Undergraduates through faculty. C. A. Hein Radex, Incorporated
