Ages 3-6. Cookie is an incorrigible cat to judge by the account of his mischievous week. On Monday he falls in the toilet and splashes water everywhere; Tuesday he knocks a plant off the windowsill; and on Wednesday he tips over the trash. As the pages turn there's no end in sight to his havoc except the expressed hope that ``Tomorrow is Sunday . . . Maybe Cookie will rest.'' dePaola's amusing watercolors bring the story to life. Warm colors and dramatic compositions highlight Cookie's pranks; a bee in the upper corner of the final spread suggests that though Cookie is snoozing, he may not be quiet for long. Amusing, especially for children familiar with cats in the house. DMW. Cats-Fiction / Days-Fiction [CIP] 87-25497

A mischievous kitten lands in daily trouble; and though Monday's mayhem (falling into the toilet) is never quite matched, even when the curtains fall down, the gleam in Cookie's eye suggests that more trouble will be brewing even on the seventh day. The brief, simple text will serve the youngest as well as older preschoolers who are learning the days of the week. DePaola's watercolors are livelier than much of his other work, and freer in execution, although carefully designed; they sparkle with lovely, soft color. His stylized, childlike depiction of Cookie is pure essence of irrepressible cat. Just right for toddlers and cat-lovers of all ages. Copyright ©Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
