Review by Booklist Review

An eco-friendly approach was one important criterion considered by the judges responsible for selecting the 34 designs included in this notable sourcebook aimed at individuals contemplating the exciting if daunting task of building a new home. Other requirements set by the competition called for architects to address the mandate for an elegant single-family residence that should be both energy efficient and no larger than 1,250 square feet. In addition to detailed plans and, in most cases, costs, the names and addresses of all the award-winning designers are given so that they may be approached if desired. An inspirational and informative portfolio of designs for a range of climates and a variety of potential building sites. --Alice Joyce
