The adventurous black lab from Sally Goes to the Beach heads to the range in Sally Goes to the Mountains by Stephen Huneck. Here she discovers an evasive rabbit, has a humorous exchange with an owl and takes a swim, and the final pages offer readers a surprise. Huneck's woodblock prints capture the rolling landscape and incorporate some abstract twists (such as a tree that grows dog food). (May) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved

PreS-Gr 1-Sally, the black Labrador, is back. Fans of Sally Goes to the Beach (Abrams, 2000) will recognize the large woodblock images that give the book a folk-art look. These prints rest on stark white backgrounds with the brief text below. The appearance is clean and crisp-perfect for group sharing. The unremarkable story tells about the canine's car trip to the mountains with her owner. At the end, readers learn that all of the creatures Sally encountered-a raccoon, a bear, rabbits, a moose, and more-were a dream, and when she wakes up, it's time for breakfast in the mountains. A beautifully illustrated picture book, easy enough for beginning readers.-Linda M. Kenton, San Rafael Public Library, CA (c) Copyright 2010. The friendly black Labrador from [cf2]Sally Goes to the Beach[cf1] embarks on another outdoorsy vacation. In a text that is basically just a string of one-liners, Sally frolics with various wildlife. In the end, it turns out to have all been a dream--she's been snoozing in the car on the way to the mountains. Huneck's stylized woodcut prints are the main attraction in this oversized book.
