Explaining forces whose results are visible but whose mechanisms aren't is always challenging, and these series books struggle to do so with only brief text and generous photographs, not diagrams. Accordingly, they veer between simplistic definitions and abstract statements. Most of the photos are artistic, but busy graphics, including some eccentrically placed sidebars, further confuse.
