Review by School Library Journal Review
PreS-Gr 1-When Katie's first-grade class goes on a field trip to the pumpkin patch, she is convinced that she has found the perfect pumpkin until her classmates tease her about its tiny size. However, her father suggests that they make a pie, and the pumpkin is just the right size. Katie takes the dessert to school to share with the other children, who find it "perfect." The easy text in large type, with no more than two sentences per page, and the cheerful, colorful cartoon art will appeal to beginning readers.-Doris Losey, Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library, Tampa, FL (c) Copyright 2010. Thanks to their ingenuity, Mrs. Connor's first-grade students discover how to quickly count to ten in [cf2]Counting[cf1]. In [cf2]Pumpkin[cf1], the class goes to a pumpkin patch where Katie's search for the perfect pumpkin leaves her unsure of her choice--until her dad saves the day. Cartoonlike drawings add a touch of whimsy to texts that feature word repetition, simple sentences, and familiar words and phrases. [Review covers these Ready-to-Read: Robin Hill School titles: [cf2]The Counting Race[cf1] and [cf2]The Pumpkin Patch[cf1].] (c) Copyright 2010.
