These titles take different approaches to remodeling one of the most heavily used rooms in any house. Peters shows how to remodel both the guest and the master bathroom from a real home built during the 1970s using three different budgets. This is an effective approach, because not every homeowner has the desire or the funds to make the bathroom a luxury showplace. Even those of modest means can achieve impressive results with this title, because the economy makeovers cost only $700-$900. A wealth of information about designs and materials is included, and clear instructions teach readers how to complete each task; numerous color photos supplement the text. Ramsey, a licensed contractor/author, follows the familiar format of the "Complete Idiot's Guide" series. Readers are provided with detailed information related to remodels, including planning and design, budgeting, financing, available features, and a variety of systems (e.g., plumbing, wiring, storage, fixtures, and more). While Ramsey's title provides more information, the average reader will find Peters's book more useful owing to its excellent "real world" format and its clear color photos. Larger collections will want to purchase both titles. (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
