Review by School Library Journal Review
PreS-Gr 1-These four simple stories feature satisfying endings that will encourage readers to return to them over and over again. In Game, José plays soccer; although he is not good at kicking or passing the ball, he eventually demonstrates that he is an excellent goalie. School starts with a young boy showing a guest around his school and the final page reveals that the visitor is his younger sister. While playing with his toy car in Zoom, a child describes how he drives it all around town; the last illustration shows that his adventure was all a dream. In Packard's book, when a new baby comes home, his older brother feels left out until he makes the infant smile. All of the texts rhyme, and the illustrations are bright and bold with lots of primary colors filling up the spreads. Excellent choices for beginner readers.-Sandra Welzenbach, Villarreal Elementary School, San Antonio, TX (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
