Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 3-5-In a clear and factual manner, these books introduce the sports but not their history. Beginners are shown the essential moves and/or equipment, the facilities, warm-up exercises, and various events within each sport. Large, colorful photographs and drawings on every page clarify the easy-to-read texts. Some show famous athletes. Vocabulary terms are printed in bold type but not always defined in context or in the glossaries. Generally, the form depicted in illustrations is good. While similar to Martin Heckelman's The New Guide to Skiing (Norton, 2000) and Gerald A. Carr's Fundamentals of Track and Field (Human Kinetics, 1999), these titles are attractive, well organized, and intended for novices.-Janice C.
