The nine comic books of Sacco's reportage from Gaza and the West Bank constitute a milestone in nonfiction comics. They consist of what journalist Sacco did and heard and saw on the ground in occupied Palestine in a few months of 1991. In this handsome hardcover, the introduction Edward Said contributed to an earlier, incomplete collection of Palestine reappears, along with Sacco's recent reflections, passages from his 1991 journals, and two comparative features, one of Sacco's source photos and the comics panels he made from them, the other of rejected pages and their replacements in the finished comics. A must-have for graphic-novels collections.--Olson, Ray Copyright 2008 Booklist

Sacco reports on his time spent in Israeli-occupied territories in 1991 and 1992 in this landmark work of comics journalism. He describes the political and social landscape using interviews with both Palestinians and Jews, offering an intimate picture of this region rarely portrayed in mainstream news. (c) Copyright 2012.
