Gr 2 Up-Translating Dr. Seuss's rhymed texts is always a challenge, but never so much as with this title, which depends on nonsense words that rhyme with common real ones. Canetti does an excellent job of coming up with nonsense words that rhyme with the Spanish names for things like "ducha" (shower)-"hay una nucha en mi ducha"-or "alfombra" (rug)-"una chombra bajo la alfombra". The translator also manages to maintain the internal rhymes within the larger text, keeping the rhymes from one page to the next. A sentence that begins, "Lo que me asusta y asombra" (What scares and astonishes me) continues in the next page with "la chombra bajo la alfombra". Lectorum editions of Dr. Seuss are a landmark in translation, and this title follows the tradition.
