Cook's Country is the homier cooking magazine from the publishers of Cook's Illustrated, and it has a huge audience. When the editors ran a contest for "lost recipes," they received close to 3000 entries in four months. They asked for recipes with a story, and each one selected for this book, from Grandpa Cooley's Angry Deviled Eggs to the Phantom Stew to Peach Puzzle, comes with its own history. Most of the recipes will be new to the majority of readers, and more than half are for desserts, a reflection of America's penchant for sweets.
