Review by Library Journal Review

While many older homes are unable to accommodate the needs of 21st-century life, poorly executed additions can destroy their distinctive character. In this book, published with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, architect Shirley describes how residences built between 1740 and 1940 can be made to accommodate current lifestyles. Color photographs depict real-life examples of 17 homes throughout the United States that have made the transition from old to new, with before-and-after floor plans showing how each transformation was accomplished.
