Acrylic painting, one of the most enduring of modern media for the painter, originated, according to Roig (Perspective Drawing), in 1920s Mexico. It has remarkable characteristics to recommend it: the transparency of watercolors, the opacity of gouache, and the density and pastiness of oils. Half of this excellent overview for the beginner is devoted to the many techniques possible with acrylics, the other, filled with practical exercises. The book ends with tips from 19th-century French painter Jen Dubuffet. An inexpensive introduction recommended for all public libraries.
