Review by Horn Book Review

The magic tree house takes Jack and Annie to a desolate island. They befriend a mid-nineteenth-century English scientist and his crew of sailors keen on killing the sea monster (it's really an octopus) that saves the kids after they fall overboard. Though we know where the story's going, Osborne's vivid setting, reliably elucidated by Murdocca's black-and-white illustrations, makes the voyage enjoyable. (c) Copyright 2010.
