Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

Gr 2-5-This bilingual picture book succinctly retells the classic story. The Pied Piper saves the town from a rat infestation when his music makes the rodents come out of their hiding places and follow him to the river. But when he does not receive the payment agreed on by the mayor, he takes his revenge on the town's children. Presented first in English and then in Spanish, the story reads smoothly in both languages. Each spread is boldly illustrated with an ink-and-watercolor drawing that captures the hustle and bustle of the medieval town. An excellent resource for bilingual classes, this title will also appeal to advance ESL students who will find here new vocabulary. Recommended for school and public libraries, as well as bookstores. These bilingual adaptations follow the same format: English preceding Spanish texts on the left-hand pages with illustrations on the right. The use of European Spanish may cause slight difficulty for speakers of North American Spanish (though differences are fairly minor). Illustrations in Snow White use sharp or smooth lines to reflect character traits, while old-fashioned comics-style illustrations in Pied Piper play up humor.
