This entry in the INsiders series presents science at its most exciting. Middle-grade readers will be drawn by the close-up views of the enormous and scary predator, with its wide-open mouth revealing deadly, razor-sharp teeth, but will stay on for the amazing factual detail packed into the double-page spreads. Covering everything from evolution, migration, and reproduction to habitat and conservation, the chatty text, boxed insets, and clear, fully-labeled anatomical diagrams and photos provide a thorough overview of this corner of marine biology. Gr 4-8-Impressive graphics take center stage in these titles. Sharp, hyper-realistic, larger-than-life drawings of one or more representative species are either set against a plain colored background or within a natural setting. Each title succinctly describes basic anatomy; physical and behavioral characteristics common to all the featured animals; some distinctive characteristics of dozens of species; diets; hunting and/or feeding habits; reproduction and life cycles; and relationship to humans. Both titles conclude with profiles of particular species-10 in Insects and 7 in Sharks. The dung beetle, housefly, bolas spider, and great white, bull, and cookie-cutter sharks are among the creatures included.
