Review by Booklist Review
Targeting all levels of business experience, from entry-level women to senior executives, Maxey and O'Connor, consultants and speaker coaches, set out to help women convey ideas with poise and confidence. Emphasizing preparation, presentation skills, and professionalism, and also recognizing that men and women think and react differently, the authors say that it's important for a woman speaker to communicate self-assuredness, maximize achievements, speak with certainty, and always be very clear about the end game. If a woman believes that a man will always have more credibility in professional speaking than she does, this belief will impair her influence and career. Other important topics include advice for writing e-mails, memos, and letters and for other forms of communication, such as conveying bad news, conducting business dinners, and giving a business eulogy. Although geared toward women in business, the book offers many valuable suggestions that can be helpful in everyday life. A must-read that will have wide appeal for female library patrons and would be of benefit to men as well.--Whaley, Mary Copyright 2008 Booklist
