Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 5-9‘Two series entries that give broad pictures of their respective nations' geography, history, government, economy, people, religion, food, and many other facets of culture. The strengths and problems of each country are explored in a depth appropriate for the intended audience, and both books report about the status of women. The texts are organized in a clear, easy-to-use format. Although they have the same chapter titles, the details presented differ widely according to the unique characteristics of each country. The clear, full-color photographs are extremely inviting. Lee gives more detail than Finland in Pictures (Lerner, 1991) and has less text and more appealing photos than Patricia Lander and Claudette Charbonneau's The Land and People of Finland (HarperCollins, 1990); Wilcox's volume is more engaging than Iceland in Pictures (Lerner, 1991). Welcome additions for report writers.‘Sandra L. Doggett, Urbana High School, Walkersville, MD (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. Review by Horn Book Review

Accessible and informative, each volume offers lucid accounts of a country's geography, history, government, economy, language, and lifestyles. Also appealing are the plethora of maps and captioned color photographs and the clean formats that mark these comprehensive offerings. Bib., glos., ind. (c) Copyright 2010.
