This law dictionary is the answer for those who struggle with legalese, whether it be the ordinary citizen just wanting more information about the law, those parties involved in a lawsuit, a small business owner, or a confused law student who simply does not understand all the jargon. This dictionary's inclusion of the major Supreme Court decisions, along with those statutes that are commonly cited, add to its helpfulness. The pronunciation guide of Latin terms is quite useful. In addition to providing straightforward definitions in an easy-to-read format, the book offers miscellaneous tidbits of information regarding law, such as quotations from famous people regarding the law, and the Lawyer's Prayer. However, the editors were apparently not as thorough as they should have been. The word "coho"--described in "Your Legal Companion" (p. v) and on the back cover as a "newly minted legal term"--is missing from the dictionary listing. This reinforces what readers may know, and what the publisher acknowledges: while this dictionary does have useful information, it should not be a substitute for legal advice from an attorney.
