Review by Library Journal Review

Like yoga, tai chi has become popular in the United States for people looking for a mind-body solution to exercise when a traditional workout is no longer enough to counteract our increasingly fast-paced and stressful lives. Filmed in beautiful, serene outdoor settings, Tai Chi: Exercise for Lifelong Health & Well-Being and Tai Chi Fundamentals feature certified instructor and author Tricia Yu's pleasant narration; thorough, step-by-step instructions; and peaceful background music. Both regimens can be completed in ten minutes a day, with no special equipment or clothing and in limited space. Each contains an eight-minute introduction that covers the history of tai chi and outlines some of its health benefits. Fundamentals goes into greater detail about the health benefits and the program components. In Fundamentals Yu is miked, making her "live" commentary a bit more personal than the voiceover in Exercise. The specific instructions are followed by a demonstration, concluding with the complete practice. With the DVD format, viewers can play the introduction and instructions enough times to master the practice and then skip to the full program and simply follow Yu without narrative. Either disc would be a welcome addition to any library looking for tai chi resources. Outstanding in their execution and coverage, these programs are strongly recommended.-Catherine Gilmore, NPS Pharmaceuticals, Salt Lake City (c) Copyright 2010.
