This entry in the Meet Your Community Workers series spotlights mail carriers, and, although somewhat repetitious, it gives a good overview of what the job entails and how postal workers spend their days. And an early day it is, sometimes starting as soon as 4 a.m., when carriers sort their mail before delivering it. Computer-generated art shows a variety of mail carriers (both sexes and various ethnicities), and there's even a spread on what is worn in different seasons. A spread entitled Problems on the Job, however, shows surprisingly few: the early day and weather woes, but nothing about dogs (or people) who are less than friendly. The book concludes with information on the skills needed to become a mail carrier and an illustrated time line that charts a mail carrier's day. Though each two-page spread contains just a few sentences, kids will get a good idea of the range of activities involved in the job.--Cooper, Ilene Copyright 2009 Booklist
