Review by Library Journal Review
Art yarns-yarns with unusual textures, unexpected additions, and interesting combinations of color-have a variety of applications in fiber crafts. North, who writes for the popular online magazine Knitty, provides an introduction to art yarn of all types. After a brief review of the fundamentals of spinning (as well as a discussion of fiber preparation and dyeing), she moves on to the funky stuff. There's even a section on incorporating "unspinnables," such as commercial fabric and plastic bags, into handspun yarn. While art yarn isn't for everyone, advanced spinners interested in increasing their repertoire will enjoy North's exploration of the possibilities. (c) Copyright 2010.
