The Baader Meinhof complex

DVD - 2010

In Germany in 1967, murderous bomb attacks, the threat of terrorism, and the fear of the enemy inside are rocking the very foundations of the still-fragile German democracy. The radicalized children of the Nazi generation, led by Andreas Baader, Ulrike Meinhof, and Gudrun Ensslin, are fighting a violent war against what they perceive as the new face of fascism. The man who understands them is also their hunter, the head of the German police force, Horst Herold.

Review by Library Journal Review

Incensed at alleged governmental fascism, a group of left-wing domestic terrorists known as the Red Army Faction beginning in the late 1960s mounted a decades-long urban guerrilla campaign of robberies, kidnappings, bombings, and assassinations targeting the German establishment. Director Uli Edel captures the operational methodology and internecine tension of these mostly middle-class radicals in a propulsive docudrama that shines a light without passing judgment in this thinking person's political thriller.
