Review by Library Journal Review
The books in this new series on countryside self-driving tours in popular tourist countries contain 24-25 tours that last from one to seven days. Site information, walking tours, day-trip suggestions, and sample lodging and eating options for a range of budgets are included. Each guide has practical, country-specific information, including getting to the country and the logistics of driving (e.g., auto rentals, insurance, parking, and road conditions). Notably useful are large, countrywide perforated pullout maps, smaller maps in the guides, and recommendations for additional maps to consult. These books are excellent for those who wish to visit the countryside rather than only the popular cities and, typical of DK's Eyewitness Travel books, contain loads of enticing and colorful photographs. One slight drawback is that they do not offer public transportation options for those who are unable or prefer not to drive. Additionally, there is no information for travelers who wish to combine several drives, but this could easily be done with the help of other guidebooks. Verdict Filling a niche travel area, these visually appealing books offer well-designed trips.
