This follow-up to The First 100 Japanese Kanji presents steps to writing and identifying Japanese's essential characters. Sato (Japanese for Dummies) offers stroke diagrams for 100 of the total 1,945 official kanji ideographs, which work with phonetic indicators called kana. Also presented are the exact calligraphic strokes, since concluding points and bends affect meaning. Each full-page entry details pronunciation, usage, subelements, and stroke order. A work space with graph-style boxes and examples allows for accurate stroke placement. While the rationale for character organization is not clear, an English-to-Japanese index assists in specific word location. (c) Copyright 2010.
