Crocheters looking to move beyond garments, amigurumi, and granny squares will enjoy Maikon's (Knitter's Lib) exploration of crochet as art, featuring textural work as well as striking crocheted home accessories. Maikon makes use of some interesting beyond-the-basics techniques, such as crocheting over a rope, to achieve different textures. Some of the creations are unexpected (a crocheted vase), and a few are artistic (the Strips of Sprouts wall hanging is particularly lovely). A couple of the patterns, while cute and appealing, do not seem to fit in with the theme of the book. This is an intriguing and original crochet book. (c) Copyright 2010.
