The A-MAZE-ing Adventures series is just the thing to keep kids' eyes spinning. Fantastically illustrated, the adventures take the form of overhead maps, which allow Cerato to give in to her every twisty, turny impulse. A brief introduction makes it simple: Use your finger to make your way through each maze from start to finish. Along the way, Kalz says, you can try to spot a sneaky clown (he is our Waldo stand-in). The first maze is a view of an entire amusement park, while subsequent mazes zero in on individual areas like Ripple Rumble Roller Coaster or House of Scare sometimes lifting the top off buildings to do so. It's impressively orchestrated and enjoyable, no doubt, but what are we learning? Well, it's subtle, but it's nicely done: a couple lines of text on each maze ask questions that practice both directions and map keys: Which direction is the mummy from the vampire? Use the key to find the first-aid hut and the ATM. Navigating maps is an important real-world skill and is rarely let's face it, never this much fun.--Kraus, Daniel Copyright 2010 Booklist
