In 1875, the acclaimed Art Students League of New York began with the premise that life drawing should be the core of art instruction and soon began to collect works to inspire students. The treasure trove depicted here of late 19th- and early 20th-century drawings from teachers such as William Merritt Chase, Kenyon Cox, and Thomas Eakins was only recently rediscovered by the League.
