Chloe, one of the widowed ladies of Stanforth, awaits with relief the arrival of the new lord, Justin Delamere. She is eager to escape the isolated manor for London: Strange things have been happening around the manor for the past year, including a peculiar interest by many people in apples. Apples? However, Chloe doesn't anticipate falling in love with the new Lord Stanforth. Justin himself desperately wants Chloe to stay, but is wary of her possible involvement in the strange occurrences, which he has been asked by the government to secretly investigate. A typical romance in the Regency style, with a puzzling mystery and some light comedy added, this is an entertaining novel. Recommended for libraries that collect this genre.-- Leslie A.
