This large-format book introduces a cornucopia of ideas for outdoor activities, along with mesmerizing color photos of children and teens creatively enjoying themselves in fields, woods, and backyards, and at rivers and beaches. The text and safety tips are aimed at parents and counselors organizing activities in the wild, but the high-quality color photos will draw a younger audience as well. Appearing on nearly every page, inviting photos capture a variety of young people engaged in quiet reflective moments as well as active games and challenges. Many activities can be carried out by children on their own, while others require adult assistance. Like Danks and Schofield's Make It Wild (2010), the book is far sturdier than most paperbacks. Although its UK origins are evident in the occasional British spelling and in the appended lists of suppliers and organizations, the ideas presented know no boundaries. From skimming stones to making leaf masks to whittling walking sticks to following treasure trails, here's an enticing array of ideas for outdoor fun and wilderness discovery.--Phelan, Caroly.
