Review by Library Journal Review

"Dessert for Dudes," the subtitle of the introduction to this book, explains Arrick's inspiration for the 31 cupcakes in this recipe compendium. All are large, and many have booze in the cake or the icing (a virgin version is also included). Arrick, a former actor and lawyer, started Butch Bakery in New York City in 2009. His book includes such recipes as Driller, a maple-flavored cupcake with milk chocolate ganache topped with bacon, and instructions for making the signature chocolate discs that top many of his special cupcakes. Arrick is specific about the ingredients (e.g., full-fat dairy products) and offers many helpful tips, like how to get a sticky liquid out of a measuring cup. Though most of the cupcakes are made from scratch, the last chapter features five recipes made with cake mixes. Verdict The colorful photos will inspire cooks of any gender to bake these mouthwatering cupcakes. Full instructions with each recipe assure success for all levels of experience. Cupcakes are still hot, and this book is sure to be in demand.-Ann Weber, Bellarmine Coll. Preparatory Lib., San Jose, CA (c) Copyright 2011.
