Baseball Prospectus is a company developed to analyze baseball statistics in new ways. If you saw Moneyball, or read Michael Lewis' book, on which the movie is based, you understand the concept. But the stats and analysis from that era have been expanded, revised, and added to extensively. There are more expansive methods of data collection today, and the analytics are far more sophisticated. But lest we scare readers away, we're still talking baseball, and talking baseball is fun, even with charts and graphs! Boston and Chicago readers will be fascinated by the analysis of Theo Epstein's performance as the Red Sox's general manager. He's running the Cubs now. Baseball fans argue hitting versus fielding all the time. Let's slap some numbers on the topic and draw some conclusions. Here's a killer topic explored in depth, which reaches some interesting conclusions: How should we view the steroid era? Do the high-profile stars accused of doping themselves deserve enshrinement in the Hall of Fame? There are also a couple of nonstatistical articles. One deals with the future of performance enhancement. What's next, and how will sports respond? There is also an excellent article on preventing injuries to young pitchers through the use of modern technology. There's not a bad selection among the 21 included.
