Review by Booklist Review
Horse-crazy Meg, Jill, and Amy call themselves the Pony Scouts, but only Jill is lucky enough to live on a pony farm. As Meg leaves to spend a weekend there, she realizes that she's packed a horse toy and a horse book but forgotten her toothbrush and pajamas. It's a sign of what's to come. Later that day, Meg forgets to latch the stall door of her favorite pony, Sparkle. After he cleverly opens all the stall doors, the girls face the challenge of catching five runaways. Young horse enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy in this amiable adventure from the Pony Scouts I Can Read series: Meg's understandable mistakes, her enviable opportunity to groom Sparkle, and the mild excitement of the ponies' escape. The appended Pony Pointers page explains three horse-related terms. An appealing watercolor illustration appears on every page, while a white space is left as a background for the very readable, large-print text. Beginning readers + horses = just right.--Phelan, Carolyn Copyright 2010 Booklist
