Revenge of the electric car

DVD - 2012

By 2006, as many as 5,000 electric cars were destroyed by the major car companies that built them. Today, the electric car is back with a vengeance. Without using a single drop of foreign oil, this new generation of car is America's future: fast, furious, and cleaner than ever. It's not just the next generation of green cars that's on the line, it's the future of the automobile itself.

Review by Library Journal Review

This documentary follows up the 2006 film Who Killed the Electric Car?, which publicized the demise of General Motors' brilliant EV-1 and other models created to fulfill a 1990s California government mandate. Revenge of the Electric Car outlines the development of a new generation of electric vehicles, with a market now assumed. The host is Dan Neil, auto columnist for the Wall Street Journal. Director Paine visits executives Bob Lutz of GM, Carlos Ghosn of Nissan, and Elon Musk of Tesla. He also includes California craftsman Greg "Gadget" Abbott, who converts individual cars to electric power. Each enterprise is undertaking a financial risk while struggling to produce acceptable performance and pricing. Paine builds tension by intercutting among the competing camps, as deadlines loom. Bonus features include additional footage and interviews. VERDICT Industrial history is being made as major auto manufacturers come to grips with producing fleets of electric cars. This film offers some insight into the process; highly recommended for car buffs, environmentalists, and business-people.--David R. Conn, formerly with Surrey Libs., BC (c) Copyright 2012.
