PreS-Gr 2-These primers are ideal for those who prefer leveled content to help children progress toward independent reading. Simple sentences, bold text, and vibrant illustrations provide new readers with amusing stories. Each book presents core sound concepts and includes a pronunciation guide in grid format to assist youngsters with sounds they encounter in the story. Additional tools for parents include a section on how to use the books. Chuck and Duck focuses on the "ch" sound and is about the love a boy has for his pet duck despite what others may think about it. Wish Fish introduces the "sh" sound and is about two friends who discover a magical fish while playing in a pond. The fish gives them each different wishes but in the end they discover the true wish they both desire. In A Duck in Luck, the focus is on the sounds "qu," "x," "ff," "ll," "ss," "zz," and "ck." The story is about a duck that is looking for someone to play with and what happens when he is turned down by the many animals he meets along the way. Finally, Top Dog focuses on the sounds "j," "v," "w," "z," "y," and "k." The story is about three friends who compete in a dog show with their pets.
