Review by Library Journal Review

This BBC presentation surveys the remarkable history of the English village of Kibworth, a sleepy Leicestershire town set in a beautiful landscape, whose interesting legacy provides viewers with an engaging perspective into England's past. Exploring a fascinating history ranging from Roman times to the present day, notable and familiar guide Michael Wood (upon whose book The Story of England this documentary is based) and the residents of Kibworth perform social history at its finest as they dig beneath gardens long dormant and explore county records to tell their idyllic village's story set against the backdrop of Viking invasions, plague, civil war, and the rise of the modern industrial world. VERDICT Wood's enthusiasm and the residents' excitement for the project are genuine, enduring, and infectious and should inspire viewers to dig into their own local history. Wood and the BBC have constructed a charming, insightful film for fans of English history and a methodological masterpiece for anyone involved in public archives.-Brian Odom, Birmingham, AL (c) Copyright 2013.
