Review by Library Journal Review
Set as a follow-up to David Pringle's Science Fiction: The Best 100 Novels: 1949-1984, this text serves as both a discussion of the changes facing science fiction as a genre and as a survey of significant and influential works written over the past 25 years. Broderick (The Judas Mandala) and Di Filippo (The Steampunk Trilogy) provide readers with a succinct critique of their top choices for notable sf books published between 1985 and 2010 including titles such as Ender's Game, Chimera, Forever Peace, Never Let Me Go, and Zoo City. Arranged chronologically, each entry includes a cover image, a plot summary, and a brief analysis. Many entries include references to historical context or influences, and all are written in a concise, eloquent style. VERDICT Informative but brief, well written and thought provoking, this text is highly recommended for sf or speculative fiction lovers. New sf readers or those who want a jumping-off point for further reading or study in the genre will find it helpful and satisfying.-Jennifer Harris, Mercyhurst Univ.
