Review by Booklist Review

The content of these new titles in the Discover More series is quite varied. Emergency Vehicles presents the functions and purpose of a variety of vehicles, as well as details such as each vehicle's top speed and crew size plus plenty of action photos. Despite their varied subject matter, the books in the series share a visually vivid style featuring lots of bright, engaging photographs. The book's various textual features make them perfect for pre-readers to browse, or for reading to pre-readers or beginning readers. A typical spread includes one large photo and several small ones. In keeping with the importance of visuals in these books, much of the key information can be found in the photo captions. Another compelling feature of this series is that each book comes with a free interactive digital companion book on the publisher's website. Young children interested in each topic will enjoy exploring these arresting titles, and adult readers may find themselves drawn in as well.--Aronin, Miriam Copyright 2010 Booklist

Review by Horn Book Review

This superficial book covers various rescue vehicles, including police cars and helicopters, fire engines, lifeboats and other sea-rescue conveyances, ambulances, and search-and-rescue vehicles. Double-page spreads highlight a specific machine (Superscooper) or type of rescue work (fire) with minimal text, easy-to-read graphics, text boxes, and large color photos. The random organization makes this best for casual browsing. Glos., ind. (c) Copyright 2013. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
