Review by Library Journal Review

UK-based Barnfield presents contemporary interpretations of vintage silhouettes in her first book. Organized by garment type (dresses, blouses, skirts, pants and shorts, suits and coats, lingerie, and headwear and gloves), each chapter includes an overview of popular styles from the 1920s through the 1980s, as well as pattern blocks for basic silhouettes. The focus is less on reproducing vintage styles than on incorporating elements of vintage clothing into contemporary designs, and the "then and now" photos provide inspiration for readers. VERDICT Sewists interested in facts, information, and basic pattern blocks will find useful information here, but sewists seeking detailed information on sewing vintage-style clothing may prefer Gretchen Hirsch's Gertie's New Book for Better Sewing.
