Review by School Library Journal Review

PreS-Gr 1-This collection showcases Thomas and his steam engine friends and their encounters with the diesels, other working trains who share the Island of Sodor. This episode introduces some new features to the series. There is a new theme song, and the transitions have been changed to computer animated shots of trains. There is also a new narrator, Michael Brandon. These changes may take a little getting used to for avid Thomas fans. Also, short puzzles and interactive, educational pieces have been added. For instance, in one viewers are instructed to help match specific trains to their loads. In another, children are asked to guess different sounds. There are four stories: "Thomas to the Rescue, " "Henry and the Whistling Tree," "Percy's New Whistle," and "Squeak, Rattle, and Roll." The collection also includes two sing-along songs with onscreen lyrics performed b children. All of the episodes feature lessons about differences and the importance of working together and how, in the end, similarities far outweigh differences. A welcome addition to public libraries where Thomas videos are popular.-Maren Ostergard, Bellevue Regional Library, King County Library System, WA (c) Copyright 2010.
