Review by School Library Journal Review
K-Gr 2-In this installment in the series, clumsy Splat tries to cheer up his athletic dad when his soccer team loses its big game. Looking back at old pictures of his father and grandfather winning a three-legged race, Splat decides that if he and his dad can win some events at the Cat School Games, Dad will be glad. As usual, disaster occurs, causing all of the events that father and son participate in to become quite slapstick. The good news is that Dad has a great sense of humor and really enjoys spending time with his son. The rhyme and repetition make this a standard easy-reader selection. An assortment of expressive felines in colorful attire add to the fun.-Jasmine L. Precopio, Fox Chapel Area School District, Pittsburgh, PA (c) Copyright 2014. Text by Alissa Heyman (Dad)/Amy Hsu Lin (Up in the Air). Things don't always go as planned, yet Splat always lands on his feet. In these outings, Splat and friends go to a fair and try to bring something special back for Kitten, and Splat does a father-son three-legged race at Cat School Game Day. There's lots of repetition and internal rhyme in these slim stories. The perpetually frazzled kitty's energy comes through in the silly illustrations.
