Review by Library Journal Review

The London Metropolitan Police Service's Unsolved Crimes and Open Cases Squad is made up of highly experienced retired police officers taking on new challenges ("old dogs" learning "new tricks"). The upbeat opening titles and music are a little misleading: these are serious, often grim investigations that are reopened usually because of new information. Detective Superintendent Sandra Pullman (Amanda Redman) has her hands full keeping her diverse crew (a fine cast including Dennis Waterman, Alun Armstrong, Denis Lawson, and Nicholas Lyndhurst) under control. The plots are varied and interesting, and the relationships among the cops are nicely developed. VERDICT The previous nine seasons (LJ 9/15/11; LJ 5/15/12) are also available from Acorn. Language and the occasional sexual situation suggest that this series is more suitable for adults. New Tricks would be a solid addition to public library collections where British police procedurals are popular. Joan Greenberg, Warminster, PA (c) Copyright 2014.
