Before the current explosion of colorful hand-dyed yarn, there was Noro, the Japanese brand known for its vibrant color combinations. In this collection of patterns from the editors of Sixth&Spring, the unique characteristics of Noro yarns are showcased in a series of garments and accessories featuring lace, both as an accent and as a main fabric. Large-format color photographs show both the details of the knitwear and the stunning colors of the yarn. The designs range from small, beginner-friendly pieces to larger items that incorporate complex shaping. The directions are easy to follow, and written or charted instructions are provided. There are hits and misses, and some of the pieces are more wearable than others, but fans of lace knitting and Noro yarns will be satisfied. VERDICT Like most branded pattern collections, this is as much an advertisement for Noro as it is a pattern book. However, Noro does have name recognition among knitters, and the eye-catching cover, which shows off the bold colors Noro is known for, will draw knitters in. © Copyright 2015.
