Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

The exuberant hippo from Shoes for Me! and A Dress for Me! reveals that her interests extend beyond fashion as she delivers a rousing tribute to the many types of books available at the library. "Books on jungles, lion kings,/ monsters, creatures, wild things," reads Fliess's unflaggingly upbeat verse as Laughead shows a Sendakian monster peering out from a book, one of several literary references in his vivid mixed-media artwork. While the story doesn't stand out from other similarly themed titles, it's an effective bit of literary cheerleading. Ages 3-8. Author's agent: Jennifer Unter, Unter Agency. PreS-Gr 1-In the third story in this picture book series (Shoes for Me!, 2011 and A Dress for Me!, 2012, both Amazon), Hippo and her father visit the local library. Hippo is excited to read all the books she finds, and her imagination takes off, allowing her to enter and become part of some stories. Classic picture books, folk and fairy tales, fables, and nonfiction titles fill her arms and backpack as she leaves the library, anxious to get home and read her treasures. There are a few books her father won't let her check out-a gentle reminder that supervision is important for selecting age-appropriate books. "Books on zombies, phantom screams. Dad says, `No, you'll have bad dreams.'" Written in rhyming couplets, the words scan well and are accompanied by detailed-filled illustrations rendered in graphite, ink, and digital media. The book covers pictured and the characters that appear in the illustrations add the element of a guessing game and heighten the entertainment. VERDICT Though this doesn't break new ground, children familiar with the first two stories, and those who love books, will welcome Hippo's new adventure.-Maryann H. Review by Horn Book Review

This rhyming ode to the wonders of a public library features Hippo and her father (from Shoes for Me! and A Dress for Me!). Wandering through the stacks with enthusiasm and delight, the duo highlights areas of interest to young children. The geometric illustrations in graphite, ink, and digital media are bright and energetic. A pleasant addition to the library-themed storybook collection. (c) Copyright 2015.
