Boris the adventure-seeking warthog is back for field day. He would love, just once, to beat Eddie, who not only wins everything but does so with a smirk on his entitled face. With the help of his parents, Boris sets up a backyard training field where he and his best friends Alice and Frederick practice and dream of field day glory. Boris continues to charm, in no small part because of Joyner's humorous comic-style illustrations. There is a sweetly surprising ending that reinforces the importance of sportsmanship and loyalty even while reaching for gold. Tips for setting up one's own backyard obstacle course round off this winning title in the Branches early chapter-book series.--Dean, Kara Copyright 2010 Booklist

Boris, an average warthog kid with a go-getter attitude, returns in two new adventures. In Win, Boris and friends train for their school's upcoming Field Day; in Light, Boris and friends make their first attempt at camping in the backyard. Relatable situations will help new readers make connections, and color-saturated illustrations extend the narrative. DIY projects are appended.
