The reason for Sir Terence Conran's latest publication quickly becomes clear. This much-acclaimed British designer, restaurateur, retailer, and author (How to Live in Small Spaces, among many, many others) is introducing a 92-item palette of paint by Conran, inspired by the English countryside. Not to say that this collection isn't worth the pounds or dollars spent. Rather, it's a fact to keep in mind while leafing through this gloriously colored compendium. The book's two parts harmonize well. The first lays out the science and bases of color, from the way our minds make sense of how our eyes perceive light. Part two reveals seven colors in detail and not necessarily the usual suspects: blue, orange, green, red, yellow, naturals, and neutrals. Each hue features different shades, advice on usage, accents, and the ultimate antidote in the form of the Classic Conran Color. Of course, given Conran's world renown as a designer, the book's heavily populated with elegant interior shots, all to inspire and enlighten. And all a tribute to his philosophy: Good design improves the quality of people's lives. --Jacobs, Barbara Copyright 2015 Booklist

Noted and knighted British designer Conran gives readers his take on the use of color in domestic interiors. He begins with the basics about color and how light, finishes, and surfaces can affect the way color is perceived as well as how to use it as a focal point, accent, or background. With close to 200 color photographs, the majority of the book focuses on how blue, orange, green, red, yellow, and natural and neutral colors are used by the designer in home interiors. In this section, Conran explores various shades and highlights a number of different color schemes. VERDICT Given the popularity of Conran's home furnishings and decorative accessories lines for JCPenney, this work will be useful to those who follow and admire his design sensibility. © Copyright 2015.
